With a real estate career stretching back twenty five years, including twenty years in Europe, Marc brings to Benson Elliot a pre-eminent track record in principal investing, team building and fund management. He enjoys a prominent industry profile and is recognised as one of the most experienced principal investors in Europe today.
Before founding Benson Elliot Marc established and managed the Doughty Hanson & Co European Real Estate Fund, one of the first, and most successful, private equity real estate funds in Europe. At Doughty Hanson Marc directed the acquisition and management of a €2 billion property portfolio, comprising office, retail, residential and industrial properties in eight countries across Europe.
A pioneer in the emerging markets of central and eastern Europe, Marc established the property team at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 1993. Marc assumed responsibility for hotel investments in 1995 and shipping finance in 1997. During Marc’s tenure at the EBRD he was responsible for over twenty transactions in the real estate and hotel sectors, with a total cost in excess of €1 billion.
Marc began his real estate career in Europe in 1990 as a Director in the European property group at Goldman Sachs, having previously spent four years in acquisitions with Chicago-based JMB Realty Corporation.
Marc has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, magna cum laude, from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Business Administration, summa cum laude, from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He is a Vice-Chair of the UK Council of the Urban Land Institute, a member of the Bank of England Property Advisory Board and a member of the Cambridge Real Estate Finance Advisory Board.
